Oh so busy...

So sorry to my three fans out there who faithfully read my blog! I have been really busy and haven't had a chance to post! Had a big string of looong shifts at work so when I got home I basically checked my mail,MG and then crashed! Did manage to have last Sunday off so Bruce and I made a trip to Washington (Ind) for their annual cruise/show. As usual it was a very nice show, lots of great cars and the park down there is beautiful! It has it's own lake that cuts thru the park with islands and fountains and all that stuff, all beautifully landscaped. I need to head back down at Xmas as they do up the whole park with lights and such,it is really cool!

As I said lots of really cool cars, even Christine's sister was there, all dolled up and puttin on the ritz!

I got a new piece.....

for the Porch (not what you were thinking, silly,if I had gotten a Piece the headline would have been in caps!!!!)
A friend of mine,Kathy, makes these chairs out of old doors and gave me this one for the Porch. I think it is pretty cool looking! I wish I was that clever and could look at an old door and see something like this! I haven't set it in place yet as I have to move some plants around and just haven't gotten to that yet. It's been much easier just sitting there, drinking beer, and admiring the plants instead of tackling it! Or maybe I'm just afraid to fight my way thru the jungle,Audry might be living in there!!!

Another celebrity car?

Spotted what I thought was another famous vehicle there, the Clampett car! Upon closer inspection tho I noticed that it did not have Californy plates on it,but Kentucky. Was it possible that there was another celebrity there? Another famous person? Was it you,Christopher?!!!!

More fest....

At the farm fest there were huge displays of old equipment, this years focus was on John Deere.

There was also a small car show, how'd you like to drive this all the time?! It's a 1951 Crosley. Do you think the propeller makes it go faster???

I just know Jan and Cindy are around here somewhere!

Weekend of farm fun!

Took a trek over to a small town about 45 minutes from me this past weekend to their annual Fall Fest. Had a blast! This Fest concentrates on old farm equipment, steam engines and the old way of doing things. Got to watch them make apple cider, apple butter, saw logs, bale hay, make ice cream, woodwork and various other activities all without using electicity! Horse drawn machines, steam engines and just plain hard work makes you realize just how hard things were back then before you could just flip a switch and turn something on! They also had a huge flea market, saw some Fiesta but nothing I wanted. I was a bit disappointed they wouldn't let me on the Barrels of Fun kiddie ride!

It's amazing....

....what you can find on the web if you will just go search! I just found out that my bromeliad is an Aechmea Fasciata, also know as the Urn Plant and the Silver vase Plant! The top phto shows a close-up of the bract spike and the tiny flowers. The lower pic is of a different bromeliad but is similar and shows how the spike comes up out of the middle of the plant.

For Ces......

This is the plant Ces asked if it was donkey ear plant. I have never heard of one but they sound interesting! If anyone has a link to show me one, post it! This is a bromeliad aechema but I don't know for sure which one, there seems to be hundreds of aechmeas! It sends up a big pink spikey ball with tiny blue flowers on it about every two years. After it blooms,it sends up "pups" (baby plants) beside it and the parent plant dies. You can see the pups are getting big on this one and the parents are dying,it bloomed this spring. I have had this plant (or rather it's offspring) for over 6 years now and every other year it has bloomed.
That's Homer there keeping an eye on everything!

This Old House....

...just ain't what she used to be! This is the home where I grew up in. My parents got a modular and placed it in the field next to it and the old place has really fell apart in the last few years. There is still stuff in there we are slowly getting out but the going is shakey, the floors are falling in,the ceiling coming down, etc. The old girl has got to be torn down this year. I am sad about that, but she is too unsafe to leave standing. It almost seems my childhood is being wiped out,the hospital where I was born has been razed,my old high school torn down and now my childhood home is next on the list. When I get rich and famous there will be no place to preserve in honor of me! I guess they will just have to restore the house I currently live in with a plaque out in front...."Papa Lived Here!"

In the Big House...

I can't believe I spent a year in the Hoosgow now! It seems just yesterday that I started this job and this week is my one year anniversary there! Time flies in the Pokey (at least it does when you get to go home each night and not back to a cell with a bunkie nammed Bubba!!!!)

Easy come.Easy go.......

Snagged this really cool looking victorian iron stand for my porch recently. It never made it! I set it out in the driveway to wash it off and mom & dad came by. Mom loved it and wants it for her house! So off to mom's it goes! Sigh. At least I get to visit it!

yesterday.......

...while cruising thru that small town looking for shops and auctions, for some reason or another this shop caught my eye while driving by at about 50 mph, hmmmm,I wonder why!

auctioning.....

Went auctioning with a friend today. The first one that we hit, that we had found listed on-line,was a real bust, nothing but junk very creatively decribed in the sale bill! So we went out crusing thru small towns looking for shops the browse. Along the way we spotted and auction sign, followed a narrow road forever and found this auction. A good old-fashioned estate sale! Lots of goodies to look at!
Wagons loaded down with boxes and boxes of stuff, old tools, crocks, rusted things, you know, cool stuff!

The only thing I did by was this funky looking oil lamp! Ugly to some people, neat to me!

All in all a great auction to attend, woth the drive to find it!

They are joining forces.....

The houseplants and the yard plants are joining together! When they get strong enough they are going to attack! See how the Wandering Jew,the Heart Ivy and the Arrowhead vine are combining forces with the ground Ivy and the Morning Glories! It's all in their plan! (see below post)

I think I am in danger.....

...of being swallowed up by my garden! I knew this would happen one of these days, the plants are creeping up onto the porch! Anyone remember the SK film "Creepshow"? Especially the segment called "Weeds"? That's gonna happen to me! One of these days I'm gonna be lazing around drunk on the porch and the plants are going to come up and swallow me up!

puddy tats....

My boys are such a joy....sometimes! Then other times They are a real pain in the ass! Had to rescue Harle out of the tree today. I know damn well the little sucker could've got down own his own but got tired of the pitiful "meows" that were directed at me while I was working in the yard! So I relented and rescued his happy ass!

And then there's Homer! You think you get a bad reaction when you wake your spouse up in the middle of a nap! Teeth!!!!

It keeps growing and growing and....

It's amazing the diffence a month can make! The top picture was taken just the other day and the bottom pic was taken in July! I never thought the sweet tator vines would go that nuts! They never have before!
Must be all the bullshit dripping off the Porch!

Busy,busy,busy......

I'm so sorry for my three fans out there that have been reading my blog! I don't know if I mentioned the fact that I work 13 hour shifts. A ral bitch but the up-side is I work 6 thirteens in a row but then I have 6 days off! So as far as posting on my blog there will be stretches that I don't post,I'm working and sleeping and that is about it! So during the times off I have to cram everything in that most people do every day! I got the housework part covered tho by my sign that I have on my front door! I only clean house every other week! Ok,just flipped the TV on,OH WOW a Tim MaGraw concert! Major distraction! Catch ya tomorrow!!!!

Down under.....

Just noticed anothor oddity here in my garden! Last spring I bought a homemade hanger with a coal bucket suspended in it for the yard. I planted YELLOW petunias in it. Well looky at what growed out from the BOTTOM of the bucket! A purple petunia!

Go figure! Must have been a seed lodged in the drain hole from the previous owner! How cool it that! Just goes to show,if it wants to grow,it will grow!!!

Oh Brother,Where Art Thou?

Thou is at my house! Or at least he will be in a couple days. My brother is moving back to town and he is going to stay with me for awhile. So I spent all day getting his room ready, I wonder if I have time to paint it?

At the auction

I love going to auctions! Attended one in Terre haute yesterday that was loaded with cool stuff. Lots of primatives, crocks and old furniture and stuff!
This is the piece I brought home. I know it's kinda "crappy" but I like it! I think I'll put it on the Porch and it can be the "throne" for special visitors!

Here's the main reason I wanted to go to this auction,Fiesta! Unfortunately most of it was damaged and even with the damage the prices were too high! Oh well,at least I got a crappy chair!!!

The Porch

Since this blog is titled "From the Porch" I figured I ought to show you where I sit and contemplate life and spend a lot of time "on the porch"! A lot of nights there are several guys here, drinking beer, discussing their days and in general wasting time! Since I am right in the middle of one of my 12 hour stretches at work, everyone has thoughtfully stayed away! The chair to the extreme left in the pic is my chair that I observe the word from! I danced out into the street before it got dark this eve to get this pic, only startled one passer-by,a good night! Usually scare a few people when I venture "off THE PORCH!!!!

The shirt off his back.....

Well actually it wasn't his shirt and it wasn't on his back! Some friends of mine went up to Ozzfest in Indy this past weekend and who should they run into, none other than Rupert from Survivor! Knowing what a major Survivor fan I am they cozied up to Rupert and got his autograph for me! Not having any paper handy, they made one of their group give up his shirt to be signed for me! It sez "to Papa, arrgh,Rupert"!

Coming soon to a theater near you....

The Lawnmower Man Part 13! Imagine this lurching around in your yard! Oh the horror! Totally Scary! How Embarassing! Can you imagine what the neighbors think?!!

My two garden helpers.....

I would be remiss if I didn't introduce you to my two valued assistants in working in the yard! This is Harle (short for Harlequin) checking the water level in one of the birdbaths.

And this is Homer (short for Homer) keeping a watchful eye out for predators. These guys are invaluable in the yard, hiding under stuff and attacking my hands when I'm pulling weeds, stalking the garden hose, digging holes (but usually not in the right spot),catching the odd, slow mouse and being their entertaining selves!

Thursday, July 20, 2006

Oh, I forgot to give credit...

...to my gardener!!!!

The rest of the yard

Ok, I'm almost done,I know you are tired of looking at plants but I have just a couple more I want to share. This pic is of my ladder/trellis in the back yard. I buried it a few feet in the ground and sunk a couple metal fence post beside it and clamped the ladder to them so it ought to stay there for awhile! I have a wild wisteria growing up it. At the base is a rusted section of an old semi wheel rim and I put tomato plants in it this year.

This pic shows one of my two stumps in the front yard. I have cypress vine growing out the hollowed out areas of the stump. Cypress vine, also know as hummingbird vine, blooms like mad with little red star shaped flowers all summer that the butterflies and hummingbirds love. It self-sows very easily so it you are not careful it will take over the whole yard! But it is so pretty and feathery it is worth the effort of keeping it in control!

Still in the yard

Got your tools ready? When it was time to get a new toolbox to carry around the old one got a proper retirement! It now hosts celosia and a spot close to the center of my front flowerbed.
The other two pics show why most of the stuff in the bed is metal, not wood. This old wooden wagon wheel is almost comepletely gone from years of being outside, only the hub and a few of the spokes on one side remain. I soaked it down with Thompson's water seal last year and it seems to have slowed down the decay. Still looks preety cool though. Next to it is a concrete "acorn" finial. The black and the chartreuse ornamental sweet potato vines are growing nicely, filling in the bare spots and the Silver brocade is doing its part to hide the ugly mulch!

Flowers

Well since I have figured out how to post some pics he I'd better do that! I dunno if I mentioned i love messing around with plants and playing in the yard(mowing the grass is not hight on my list of fun things to do but you can reward yourself with a well-deserved beer when you are done! Not like I need a reason!). The previous post below shows the corner of my house with the old birdbath and my iron wheels and the wheel barrow. The first pic here is close to the opposite corner of the front of the porch with my lil red wagon. I love to find old rusted, useless things and incorporate them into my yard decor. The second pic is an old homemade watering trough from a farm auction I went to last summer. I planted the "black" elephant ears in it. There are true almost black elephant ears out there I just haven't found any bulbs yet.

EUREKA!

I DID IT!!!! Now to figure out what i did so i can do it again! (kinda sounds like my first time at sex!!!

My yard

Hmmm, did I do this, did I actually post a picture here? Have to go check!!!

I'm so bad

I've been neglecting my duties and posting for all my fans out here in cyberworld! Well I'm gonna try and get back on the horse from now on here!
The girls in "B" block found out the other day I know some very colorful language! B-block is right next to the bargate to the kitchen in the jail. The other day I slammed the gate closed on my little finger! The air was blue for a few minutes! Those bargates are heavy steel! I now have a black fingernail but I can finally bend my finger a bit today. Still hurts tho!
I'm going up to Indy Saturday to visit my sister, she moved back to Indiana from Florida last fall and I still haven't made it up there to see her house. I think Brother Tom is going up with me,if it rains. If it doesn't rain he is going racing.
Ok,hopefully it won't be several more months before I blog again!

my mistake

I was real proud that I figured out how to put a link in my message and then screwed it up! The correct link for MG is
http://www.mediumgreen.com
I inadvertently added so extra letters to it the first time!

Monday Monday

Just sitting here crusing around on the computer, looking for Fiesta bargains on the on-line auctions, few and far between! I think I did get a good one last night,a vintage light green disc for $11! I hope it is as nice as described when I get it,I'll let you know!
Also found out yesterday that one of my fellow MGers lives only a few miles from me!
(MG is http://www.mediumgreen.com,a chat board for Fiesta lovers)
While crusing thru eBay I ran across a juniper carafe that had been discussed on the board, and lo and behold, the eBay seller name was the same name as on the chat board so I knew it was the same person. What really kicked me was her location listed in the auction! A small town just a few miles away from me! We've been e-mailing back and forth all day!Just goes to show that the world wide web makes everybody neighbors, and sometimes they really are!!!

Face still there

Well it's been 5 days and my face is slowly healing, still itching like mad but healing!
Went out to Mom & Dad's today. Fixed lunch,Bro Tom and his boy were there. After Lunch we went back to the woods to get the old truck out of the barn. It is a 1955 Dodge grain truck and it is in really good condition,Brother is trying to sell it and needed me to take some pics of it to send to some guy in Kentucky. Brother doesn't mess with computers so it is up to me to be the go-between for them!
I wish I could figure out how to post pics on this blog! I have looked around and still can't figure out how!

Face off!

Well it kinda feels like my face has been taken off! I went in Tuesday to have a mole/groweth thingie lasered off my face and the doc went ahead and zapped three of them off! My face now looks like I have been attacked with a lit cigarette! But the doc assured me that in about a week everything will be fine and I will be back to my old face,of course it would be better if I could heal back to Brad Pitts face but I guess that's not gonna happen!

Work Sucks!!!!

Grrrrr! I have to work the holidays. I work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day AND New Year's Eve and New Year's Day! And since the holidays fall on a Sunday the holiday pay isn't untill the following Monday which I have OFF!! So that means I work the holidays and don't get paid and the ones with the holidays off get paid for it!! grumble gumble grumble!Oh well one of these days I will find me a rich man that loves Fiesta and won't have to work anymore!!!Yeah like that's gonna happen!
I promise I will be in a better mood next time!

Danni won!

Well Danni beat out the others on Survivor to win the million dollars. She wasn't my pick but it's ok,my pick was ME!

The water was shut off yesterday, I had to call and put the payment on the credit card to get it turned back on. I hate using the card for anything like that, but had no choice. Came home from work and had to bitch about it,so Sarah is going to kick up her rent payments. When she found out I was gonna cut off the cable she decided to help out some more. I had to call and put the cable bill on the card too. This is the only month to do that, next month if more money doesn't come in I will probably have to start shutting things off. I'm not getting very many hours at work and it is not enough to pay the bills. Some things are selling at auction today so that will help and then hopefully will get some money out of the stuff I'm taking up for the New Year's Day auction. I really need to find another jog,but not much is around here.

Things will improve soon....hopefully!

Xmas party

Just got back from our employee Xmas party. Big fun. Watching kids bowl and run around and scream and run around and scream and run around...you get the picture! We all did get an Xmas present,a couch throw with the Sheriff Department logo and a pic of the Sheriff's truck on it. Kinda cool, would rather had a huge bonus but like it anyways! Absolutely no one was drinking anything (except pop!) till I decided enough was enough! Whith all those kids running around I needed a brew! After I got mine and wasn't thrown out by the Matron (a notorious teetotaler!),several of the other guys got brave and got beers too! I guess evreyone was just waiting for someone to either break the ice or put their neck on the block first!!! I survived!

Speaking of Survivor,(nice lead in!) This Sunday is the Survivor finale! Really rootin for Rafe to win but I bet he won't,what chance does a gay guy have against all them women! He'll be booted out for sure but I can always hope!

I've got to get busy and get my list of stuff e-mailed out to the auctioneer tomorrow! If I get up early and get crackin I should be able to do it! Just have to make myself get up early!

Hmmmmm.......

From the PorchI actually may have figured part of this out!!!! Hooray, clap me on the back and buy me a beer!! Have to investigate farther, see how to do pics and such! But right now it's time to head to work. Tonight is our employee Xmas party,at the bowling alley! Whoopee! (insert sarcastic facial expession here) So it's off to jail I go!

On The Porch

Testing Testing again!

On The Porch

Well well well! I finally found this spot again! It's been awhile since I created this blog, and now that I'm back I have nothing to say! It white as hell outside, snowed to beat the band yesterday, got about 4 inches out there!
I've been going thru stuff to take up to Shadow's auction Barn for their annual New's Year Day Antique auction. Need to raise some money some how! Dinky's auction is tonight and I actually have a Friday I could go but the snow kinda put the shitzu on that! Was gonna take a load down to sell, but discussed it with Bruce and Peanut and we figured that with the fact they have been closed for a few weeks because of the tornado damage and with the weather, the buyers wouldn't be out in force. I ain't sellin my stuff cheap!
